A Love Letter to my Mom

"Because I feel that in the heavens above
The angels, whispering one to another,
Can find among their burning tears of love,
None so devotional as that of "Mother,"
Therefore, by that dear name I have long called you,
You who are more than mother unto me."
- Edgar Allan Poe

Dear Mom,

How do I even start this? A love letter for all to see that tries to express in words what is in my heart. I wish there were more words in the dictionary that would adequately say to you how I feel, but I will do my best!

You are quite simply, the greatest Mom a daughter could ask for. I thank God that He blessed me with a mother who is so supportive, so understanding, so awesome...that I just can't seem to express it enough.

I went to write you a poem many years ago to try and do just that. A few simple words flowed on to my page and it seemed to say it all. I put it in a silver heart locket with a picture that I know you hold dear. For my readers, I will share this short poem - the shortest I have ever written - now as it still applies:

Mother
(for Mom)

The slightest gesture moves my heart.
She cries with me.

By: Lora (Breakey) Rossi

Yes...everything you do for me touches me to the core and if I cry in happiness you do the same. If I weep, you weep with me. What I didn't know then, when I wrote this little poem, is what it feels like to actually be a mother. Now, of course, I do...three times over...just like you.

You are my rock, my shoulder, my confidant, my best friend in the entire world.

It's funny to me when people say they have learned what not to do from their parents. Well...the opposite is true for me. You have been an amazing role model and continue to be. If I am half the mother that you have been to me...that you are to me...then I will have done a stupendous job!

I know not many people can say this about their moms consistently. I also know there are others who also have amazing moms...but I am pretty sure mine is even more amazing and anyone who wants to argue this fact...I dare you! :)

They (whoever "they" are!) say that a mother's love is stronger than any other. I know this to be true from both sides now. I have a mother who loves me so much I know you would do anything to help me.

I also am doing my best to do the same for my three boys...your amazing grandsons. Not only am I blessed to have you as my mom but I am so happy they have you as their "Nana". And the looks on their faces when I tell them you are coming over...or that we are going to see you says it all. They love you. With hearts! :)

I know I have written you love letters before and surely this will not be the last. But I just wanted to let you and my readers know that the whole concept of a "hugging home" came from how I was raised. I was raised in a home filled with positivity, love, support, encouragement and lots and lots of hugs.

And for that, I am forever grateful.

I love you more than words can say...but in a letter...that is all I have.

Hugs & Kisses,

Lora xoxo
